Home » Pwy yw Ysgol Glanaethwy / Who are Ysgol Glanaethwy?

Last Choir StandingEfallai i rai ohonoch glywed am Glanaethwy ar ôl eu llwyddiant ar y gyfres Last Choir Standing nôl yn 2008, ond dim ond cyfran fechan o’u siwrnai oedd hynny. Dechreuodd y daith nôl yn 1990 pan oedd Rhian a Cefin Roberts yn cynnal gweithdai mewn amrywiol ofodau diddorol yng nghyffiniau Bangor. Yna, ym 1995, prynodd y ddau sgwaryn o dir ar Barc Busnes ym Mharc Menai ac adeiladu eu hysgol berfformio eu hunain.

Yn eu blwyddyn gyntaf 1990/91 daeth yr ysgol i’r brig mewn dwy gystadleuaeth yn yr Eisteddfod Genedlaethol yn ogystal â rhai o brif wobrau corawl yn yr wyl Music For Youth yn Llundain a’r Barclays Music Theatre Awards. Ers hynny mae’r côr wedi teithio i Fwlgaria, Hwngari, Yr Eidal, Y Swisdir, Y Weriniaeth Tsiec, Yr Iwcraen, Iwerddon, Yr Alban a Lloegr ac yn 2010 roeddan nhw’n cynrychioli Cymru yn y World Choir Games yn Shaoxing yn Tsieina gan ddod adre hefyd un fedal aur ac un arian yn ogystal â chyrraedd y brig yng nghategori’r canu gospel.

Who are Ysgol Glanaethwy / Pwy Yw GlanaethwyYsgol Glanaethwy’s success on the Last Choir Standing series in 2008 was only the tip of the iceburg in the long-established performing arts school’s story. Established in 1990 by husband and wife team Rhian and Cefin Roberts they started out by renting rehearsal rooms and other strange and interesting spaces to start their journey. Then in 1995 they bought a plot of land on Parc Menai Business Park and built their own performing arts school.

In their first year, 1990/91 the school won two competitions at the National Eisteddfod as well as winning top awards at the Music For Youth Festival and the Barclays Music Festival in the South Bank in London. Since then they have travelled to Bulgaria, Hungary, Italy, Switzerland, Czechoslovakia, the Ukraine, Ireland, Scotland and England, and in 2010 they represented Wales at the 2010 World Choir Games in Shaoxing in China and came home with two gold and one silver award.

Dros y blynyddoedd mae’r ddau gôr wedi ennill nifer o wobrau mewn gwyliau cerddorol gan gynnwys Côr yr wyl yn yr Eisteddfod Genedlaethol yr wyl Ban Geltaidd a Gwyl Gorawl Stena. Daethant i’r brig yng nghategori’r Côr Plant yn y Sainsburys Choir of the Year  yn 2002 ac yng nghategori’r Côr Ieuenctid yn Hwngari yng Ngwyl Gorawl Musica Mundi yn 2008. Maent wedi dod i’r brig bedair gwaith yng Ngwyl Ryngwladol Llangollen, ac yn 2009 fe wnaed aelodau’r côr yn llysgenhadon o’r wyl.

Over the years both choirs have won numerous awards in various Musical Festivals and have been nominated the Choir of The Festival Award at the National Eisteddfod, The Stena Choir Festival and the Pan Celtic Music Festival. They won the Children’s Choir Category at the Sainsbury’s Choir of the Year Festival yn 2002 and were awarded the best Youth Choir Category in Hungary at the Musica Mundy Festival in 2008. They have won four times at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod and in 2009 the members were made Ambassadors of the Festival.
