Haf 2008 oedd un o gyfnodau prysuraf yn hanes yr ysgol. Pan oeddan ni’n danfon DVD o’r côr h?n yn canu dwy gân i’r BBC yn Llundain tua mis Mawrth ddaru ni rioed freuddwydio y byddem i gyd yn gorfod aberthu ein holl wyliau haf y flwyddyn honno i baratoi a pherfformio yn y gyfres. A deud y gwir, doedd ganddon ni ddim syniad be’n union oedd y rhaglen pan oeddan ni’n rhoi ein henwau ymlaen i gystadlu. Dim ond yn raddol yr oedd yn gwawrio arnan ni mai rhyw fath o X-Factor i gorau oedd y gyfres yma’n mynd i fod.
Rhwng y naill raglen a’r llall roedd yn rhaid inni ddysgu pedair cân bob wythnos; dwy gân gan y côr a dwy gân i’w canu ar y cyd hefo’r corau eraill. Roedd yn dipyn o gur pen i feddwl am ganeuon yn wythnosol, a chan mai dim ond yn Gymraeg yr oedd y côr wedi canu cyn hynny doedd ganddon ni ddim caneuon wrth gefn i ysgafnhau rhyw fymryn ar y baich o ddysgu chwaith.

O un wythnos i’r llall roeddan ni’n ymarfer o fore gwyn tan nos. Dysgu’r geiriau y nodau a’r coreograffi mewn pedwar diwrnod ac yna teithio i lawr i Lundain i ymarfer ar y set ar y dydd Gwener.
Y rhaglen yn fyw ar y dydd Sadwrn a’r corau buddugol yn cychwyn ar gylch-daith arall o ddysgu!
Ond biti na fydda’r BBC yn cynnig cyfres arall erbyn hyn gan fod yr holl brofiad wedi bod yn un arbennig iawn i bob un ohonom. Byddai’n braf gweld corau eraill yn cael yr un cyfle gan i’r gyfres roi gymaint o gyfleoedd inni ers 2008.
Gwasgwch yma i fynd i dudalen Last Choir Standing ar y BBC
The summer of 2008 was one of the busiest periods in the school’s history. When we sent a DVD of the senior choir singing two songs to the BBC in March we never imagined that we would have to sacrifice all of our summer holiday that year to prepare and perform on the series. To be honest, we had no idea what kind of competition we were entering when we put our names forward to compete. It was quite a while before it dawned on us that we were entering an X-Factor for choirs competition.
Between each programme we had to learn four songs every week; two songs for the competition and two group song that we would sing with the other choirs. It was a weekly headache trying to think of suitable numbers since we had only sung in Welsh prior to LCS and therefore had no suitable songs in our repetoire to ease a little on our workload. From one week to the next we worked from sunrise to sunset. Learning the notes, words and choreography in four days, travelling down to London to rehearse on the Friday and the live show on the Saturday. Then we’d travell back to North Wales on the Sunday to start the whole process again!
Its a shame that the BBC has not yet offered another series since the whole experience was a great learning curve for the school. It would be great to see other choirs getting the same opportunity since the exposure has opened so many new doors for Glanaethwy since 2008.
