Roedd y daith i Shaoxing yn 2010 yn un o’r teithiau mwyaf mentrus yn hanes yr ysgol. Cawsom wahoddiad i gystadlu yn y World Choir Games trwy ennill yng Ngwyl Gerdd Musica Mundi ym Mwdapest, Hwngari, yn 2007. Yno, fe ddaethom i’r brig yng nghategori’r Corau Ieuenctid, ac roedd hynny wedyn yn arwain at wahoddiad i gynrychioli Cymru yn y World Choir Games yn 2010.
Yn yr wyl ryngwladol gall bob côr gystadlu mewn uchafswm o dri categori ac fe ddewisom ni gystadlu yng nghategori’r Corau Ieuectid, Pop a Gosbel. Roedd dros 400 o gorau yn cystadlu yn yr wyl dros y pythefnos yn cynrychioli’r pedwar cyfandir ac roedd yn wefr aruthrol i’r aelodau gael rhannu’r llwyfan hefo rhai o’r corau gorau yn y byd. Cawsom hefyd wahoddiad i gynrychioli Ewrop yn y cyngerdd agoriadol a pherfformio i gynulleidfa o 15,000.
Ar ddiwedd y cystadlu lleolir pob côr mewn categori aur, arian neu efydd. Cyrhaeddom safon arian a’r pumed safle yn y categori Pop. Cyrhaeddom safon aur a’r trydydd safle yng nghategori’r Corau Ieuenctid, a chyrhaeddom safon aur a dod i frig y gystadleuaeth yng nghategori’r Corau Gosbel.
Cawsom naw diwrnod bythgofiadwy yn cystadlu, adlonni ac ymlacio yng nghwmni catorion o’r pum cyfandir. Carwn ddiolch i’n noddwyr a’n cefnogwyr a’n cynorthwyodd i wneud y daith yma’n bosibl. Ein nôd fel ysgol yw ehangu gorwelion ein perfformwyr ifanc a bu’r daith yma yn gyfrwng i wneud hynny ar sawl lefel.

The trip to Shaoxing, China, was one of the school’s biggest venture so far. The choir qualified when we competed in one of Musica Mundi’s Festivals in Budapest, Hungary in 2007. The senior choir won the Youth Choir Category, and were then invited to compete at the World Choir Games in 2010.
Every choir can compete in up to three categories at the World Choir Games and we decided to enter in the Youth, Pop and Gospel Categories. Over 400 choirs were competing at the festival representing all five continents and it was a fantastic experience for the members to share the stage with some of the best choirs in the world. The choir was also invited to perform in the opening concert of the Games to an audience of 15,000.
All choirs are placed in either gold, silver or bronze class. We acheived a Silver Class in the Pop Category and were placed fifth overall. We acheived a Gold Class in the Youth Category and were placed third overall. And we also acheived a Gold Class in the Gospel Category and were also the winners of this category.
We had nine fantastic days of competing, entertaining and relaxing in the company of singers from all over the globe. I’d like to thank all our sponsors and supporters and all the parents that helped make this trip possible. Our aim in the school is to broaden the horizons of our young performers and this trip certainly did this in so many ways.
